Gary Neville thinks player Ruben Amorim wanted gone ‘all of a sudden’ looks great for Man Utd

Gary Neville dissected Manchester United’s performance against Arsenal in the Premier League and gave praise to a player whom Ruben Amorim actually wanted to sell at Manchester United.

Manchester United started off their 25/26 Premier League season with a loss, but it wasn’t exactly a bad performance from Ruben Amorim’s side.

On Benjamin Sesko’s debut, it was Arsenal who prevailed, but United had some great performances on the day.

That included some players who have been deemed to have dubious futures at Manchester United, as Gary Neville has alluded to.

Gary Neville gives Casemiro praise after Arsenal clash

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Neville said he was impressed with United’s performance, and even gave praise to Casemiro, who doesn’t get a lot of that nowadays.

Neville said on the Arsenal vs Manchester United fixture: “But yesterday was the first time that I watched that formation out on Old Trafford, where I thought, right, we’ve got a chance here.

“That worked. He got a few different players in. Got [Mason] Mount back, got Luke Shaw at left centre back. That helped. It’s a difficult system.

“And we said that it’s a rare system in terms of unique players who are specialists. But when you saw [Matheus] Cunha yesterday and then [Bryan] Mbeumo playing, you saw Mount play, you saw Shaw at left centre back, all of a sudden, there was a balance.

“Casemiro looks like a better player all of a sudden. He looked straight away like a better player!”

Is there life in the old boy yet? Potentially – that is, despite his exit rumoured for some time now.

Casemiro looked destined to be sold at Old Trafford

Casemiro has been linked with a United exit for some time now, but the Brazilian looks like he’s set to survive the transfer window and play a part for Amorim’s side this season.

The former Real Madrid man does have quality, but it’s safe to say his legs aren’t what they used to be.

That said, with Man United failing Carlos Baleba’s pursuit, and the lack of funds apparent, Casemiro could genuinely play a huge part in their season.

He made a good start against the Gunners – can he continue this for the rest of the season?
