Gary Neville takes his chance as Liverpool finally succumb to defeat

Gary Neville seized his chance to try and wind the Liverpool fans up last night as the Reds finally tasted Premier League defeat.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were beaten comfortably by Watford at Vicarage Road. The final score was 3-0 and, in truth, it could have been even more for Nigel Pearson’s men.

And former Man United hero and Liverpool nemesis Neville was immediately active on his Twitter account in trying to entice some bites from the Reds fans.

Neville posted a number of updates including this one, which showed him popping some champagne in celebration.

Of course, Neville is simply going on the wind up with this sort of behaviour. Nevill and long-term Sky Sports partner, Jamie Carragher, have had plenty of banter about the subject of the Reds going unbeaten all year long.

It was, then, satisfying for Neville to see the Reds finally do down.

Furthermore, he also posted a celebratory video of himself in the back of a taxi accusing Liverpool of ‘bottling it’.

Again, it was all tongue-in-cheek stuff from the former England and Red Devils right-back.

Liverpool are still some 22 points clear of Man City in second. The Cityzens play in the League Cup final today as they look to add some more silverware the cabinet.

In a footballing world and social media-driven world where things can get nasty or out of hand, this is quite nice to see from Neville.

There’s a mutual acceptance between both he and Liverpool fans that they will wind each other up. It’s less hatred and more mutual respect as time has ticked by.

Liverpool fans, really, will be loving the fact that Gary Neville has been reduced to celebrating a single Reds loss.

It’s certainly a far cry from the days of Man United dominance and if anything, shows just how far ahead of the Red Devils Liverpool currently are.
