Newcastle beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday in what was an unbelievable performance.
The Magpies had Arsenal on the backfoot early in the game as the crowd played their part and Newcastle seemed to have the wind in their sails.
As ever, Alexander Isak played his part in the game. He scored an early goal that was disallowed, while his strike from 30 yards led to the rebound that was turned in by Jacob Murphy.
Arsenal fans even criticised William Saliba due to the fact he couldn’t deal with Isak.
Of course, Isak putting in a good performance against Arsenal does come with a certain level of irony.
Indeed, Arsenal want to sign Isak, and during his commentary on Sky Sports around 40 minutes into the match, Gary Neville made a comment on Isak and a potential move to Arsenal.

Alexander Isak would make Arsenal a top team
Neville spoke about Isak and Kai Havertz as the game went on.
Isak was clearly outperforming Havertz on the day, and he said that if these two players swapped teams, Arsenal would be an incredible side.
“We covered them both in the pre-match close ups before the game, but just look at Isak on one side and Havertz on the other. It’s unfair on Havertz in some ways, but just imagine what Arsenal would be if they swapped shirts,” Neville said.
Alexander Isak compared to Kai Havertz
Neville suggests that Arsenal would be an incredible team if they had Isak leading their line, and he’s not wrong.
Indeed, the Newcastle striker has been on fire this season, and when you compare his proficiency in front of goal to Kai Havertz’s it’s a no contest.
| Alexander Isak | Kai Havertz | |
| Games | 22 | 21 |
| Goals | 17 | 9 |
| Assists | 5 | 3 |
Arsenal believe the £60m man would be a perfect signing, and it’s easy to see why.
The Gunners have been in the market for a new centre-forward for quite some time, and they have looked at a number of options.
Arsenal bid for Ollie Watkins last week, while Benjamin Sesko is admired by Arsenal too, but if there’s any striker in world football who could immediately improve this Arsenal side overnight, it’s Isak.
Whether or not Arsenal can get a deal done for Isak remains to be seen, but if he becomes available at some point, don’t be surprised if the Gunners pounce.
