Gary Neville says Spurs have an 'exceptional' talent in their ranks, pure 'gold'
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been described by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville as an “exceptional” player.
The 27-year-old has been sensational for Spurs and England over the years, and has just become the third player in Premier League history to claim the Golden Boot and finish with the most assists in the same season.
Kane scored his 23rd goal of the season in Sunday’s Premier League finale against Leicester, and has also registered 14 assists in the top flight.
And this summer, the England captain will hope to lead his nation to glory at the rescheduled Euro 2020 finals following their fourth-placed finish at the 2018 World Cup.
However, speculation over Kane’s future has increased massively in recent weeks, with numerous outlets claiming he’s looking to leave Tottenham.
Earlier this month, Kane spoke to Neville on The Overlap and described Kevin De Bruyne as a “special, special player” whose deliveries are “a striker’s dream”.
Unsurprisingly, his comments have fuelled speculation linking him with a move to Premier League champions Manchester City at the end of the season.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville believes this summer is a “crossroads” moment for Spurs, who have come through a “golden period” despite failing to land a trophy.
He said: “They have also got this exceptional player in Harry Kane and it’s a really simple conundrum – does he want to stay at Tottenham?
“Do Tottenham want to keep him for the next 10 years and he does what Matt Le Tissier did at Southampton or Alan Shearer when he went back to Newcastle?
“You can have exceptional careers and be at clubs like that where you stay there and it’s your club, you don’t leave and this is where I’m at.
“Or does he do what maybe Ferdinand did leaving Leeds or Rooney did leaving Everton, where they have left and gone to other clubs in the league that have been more successful and go down that different path.
“This summer is the moment where it will either happen or it won’t. You could maybe argue next year, but once Harry gets to 30, you would imagine that moment would have done. It’s a big moment for Tottenham, it’s a big moment for Harry Kane.
“He’s gold… A Ferdinand, a Rooney, a Shearer, they are gold and you just know they are going to perform. Kane fits into that category.
“Any club that gets him is not going to be disappointed with what he delivers. He’s consistent, he’s reliable, he’s exceptional and he will break the records with England the Premier League, I’m absolutely certain of it.”
Can’t argue with what Neville has said – Spurs are indeed at a crossroads, having endured a difficult season which has only led to European qualification because of the creation of the Europa Conference League.
The squad is in need of major surgery, with far too many players flattering to deceive, and a lot of investment is needed if Spurs hope to make the top four next season.
And with their main asset reportedly eager to leave Tottenham, it’s not a bad idea to try and get as much as they can out of him and use the money to strengthen the squad.
