Tottenham Hotspur are one of the most bizarre teams in all of Europe.
Spurs’ last two results highlight why this Tottenham team is so strange.
A 2-1 loss at home to Ipswich was followed up by a 4-0 win away at Manchester City, and those results, somehow, make sense based on the team’s form this season.
Indeed, Spurs have been so up and down this term, and that’s reflected in their league position.
Ange Postecoglou isn’t under any pressure at the moment, but some of Spurs’ results have been inexplicable.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 5 | 12 | 6 | 4 | 2 | 21 | 16 | 5 | 22 | |

Speaking on It’s Called Soccer, Gary Neville has been discussing some of the problems in this Tottenham team, and he’s noted one change the north London club need to make.

Gary Neville urges Tottenham to change their mentality
Neville says that Spurs need to change their mentality.
The pundit noted that Spurs seem to be able to get up for the big games, but, frustratingly, they sometimes don’t have the same approach to matches that are slightly easier on paper.
“They always say ‘you have to get up for every game, you can’t treat big games differently.’ But it’s a nonsense that,” Neville said.
“When you play Man City, Arsenal or Liverpool, you have all of the noise, and it’s heightening, you feel on edge, you have to prepare differently.
“You have to prepare your routine the same, but you need to get yourself up for games that don’t give you that natural adrenaline. Tottenham need to learn that skill of saying ‘do it properly today, get it done today.’ They need to believe inside that they need to do it differently.”
Tottenham’s record vs top half and bottom half teams
Neville says that Spurs have a problem when it comes to playing games where there isn’t that natural adrenaline, and he’s not wrong.
Of course, every game in the Premier League is big, but some are bigger than others.
However, Spurs do seem to get up for the matches against the bigger teams.
Their three biggest wins of the season have been against Aston Villa, Manchester City and Manchester United, and the data shows that Spurs do struggle against some of the smaller sides.
| Tottenham record vs last season’s top 10 | Tottenham record vs last season’s bottom 10* | |
| Games | 7 | 5 |
| Wins | 4 | 2 |
| Draws | 0 | 1 |
| Losses | 3 | 2 |

| Points per game | 1.71 | 1.4 |
Tottenham know there is a consistency issue within their squad, and they need to figure out a way to solve that.
Spurs showed with their win against Manchester City over the weekend that they’re capable of taking any team down, but, for some reason, Tottenham aren’t able to find this sort of form on a weekly basis.
Tottenham have what it takes to do something special this season, but whether or not they can find that sort of form on a regular basis remains to be seen.
