Gary Neville has once again raised concerns about Manchester United’s style of play under Erik ten Hag.
After a promising run of form, Manchester United suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Fulham on Saturday.
Erik ten Hag’s men had picked up four consecutive wins in the Premier League and had the chance to go level on points with fifth-placed Tottenham with a win.
But familiar issues led to a lacklustre display against Marco Silva’s men and ultimately further criticism over Ten Hag’s style of play.
Gary Neville believes that a lack of team identity at United is currently a ‘huge problem’ for Ten Hag.

Neville on Ten Hag’s huge issue at United
Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast, Neville reacted to United’s latest defeat at Old Trafford.
“We shouldn’t be surprised when they lose games because the performance levels aren’t good enough,” he said. “I watched the highlights of the game on Sunday morning and I wondered if the Match of the Day highlights had been doctored because the first half, did we actually have an attack? [he laughed].
“Fulham should have scored three or four. In the second half, it was something similar, there was a bit of a flurry at the end and the daft thing is when United equalised, I’m thinking they were going to win, that’s what United do.
“Fulham go up the other end and Iwobi scores and you’re like right, ok.
“That is a really, really a big problem for the manager and coach because results are important, they’re critical for every manager. But if you’re looking at building a project, and I don’t like using the word, then you’ve got to see progression, direction and where it’s going.
“That’s the problem at this moment in time. It isn’t just me, it’s everybody who watches United, it’s what kind of team are they?”

Similar criticism has been aimed at Ten Hag during his spell in Manchester.
The Dutchman’s Ajax side played an exciting brand of football but he’s struggled to implement something similar at United.
Whether that’s down to personnel remains unclear. But after almost two seasons in the job, you’d have expected United to have a clear identity by now.
