Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been described by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville as the best stopper in the Premier League this year “by a mile”.

The 28-year-old has been sensational for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds since joining the Anfield side from Roma in 2018 for a then world-record fee for a goalkeeper.

Alisson has helped Liverpool win the Premier League, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Supercup, as well as helping Brazil win the 2019 Copa America.

To date, the Brazil international has made 103 competitive appearances for the Reds, keeping 49 clean sheets and conceding just 76 goals.

Neville, alongside Jamie Carragher, put together their Premier League Team of 2020 on Sky Sports, and the Manchester United legend rates Alisson higher than title rival and compatriot Ederson.

“Alisson has been the best by a mile,” said Neville.

“Ederson had been outstanding for a few seasons but his standards have dropped. When you have an outstanding goalkeeper, the difference it makes is off the scale. The upgrade from a good goalkeeper to a great goalkeeper, points-wise, is unquantifiable.

“He (Alisson) just makes save after save and makes the fewest errors, which is the key. He gives complete assurance to everyone in his team. If you want to win titles, then you need an amazing goalkeeper – and he’s an amazing goalkeeper.”

Alisson was briefly the world’s most expensive goalkeeper after Liverpool paid Roma £65million for his services, and he’s been so good that few will question whether it was money well spent.

When he was out injured, the Reds really missed him, as per the 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa, but against Fulham, where Liverpool also struggled, he was the difference who helped his side to a point.
