Gary Neville has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 31/1; 18:17) that Mohamed Salah was the one to change the game in Liverpool’s win over West Ham as he named the forward his man of the match.

Jurgen Klopp’s men made it back to back 3-1 victories on Sunday. They beat the Hammers at the London Stadium just days after seeing off Spurs.

Salah did not score in North London. But he was outstanding against the Irons, scoring twice to lead the Reds to the three points.

His first strike is a moment of class. The Egyptian made a fantastic run into the box before curling his strike into the far top corner to break the deadlock.

But his second goal is arguably on another level. Liverpool broke away from a West Ham corner, with Curtis Jones finding Xherdan Shaqiri with a long-range pass.

Shaqiri then hit an outrageous first-time cross into Salah’s path. The 28-year-old produced a delicious first touch before the lifting the ball over Lukasz Fabianski with his left foot.

And those two moments of brilliance meant that Neville had little choice when asked to name his man of the match.

“I’m going to give it to Mo Salah,” he told Sky Sports. “I think the centre-backs of Liverpool have been really good. But he changed this match. The first goal we expect from him, the second goal was just exceptional.”

Neville also went on to discuss the brace a little more on his own podcast following the game.

“So special,” he told The Gary Neville Podcast. “I have to say, you see the first goal which is a really good goal, but it’s one of those that you see quite often from Mo Salah so you’re not out of your chair thinking it’s anything different.”

“The second goal is so, so good. It’s exceptional, it’s breathtaking.”
