Gary Neville predicts the result of Liverpool vs Tottenham in the Carabao Cup

Liverpool and Tottenham face off in the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg on Thursday evening.

This is a huge game for both teams, but it does feel as though there’s more riding on this for Tottenham.

Indeed, while Liverpool would never turn their noses up at any silverware, Liverpool are favourites to win the Premier League, so they may have a bigger focus on the league as well as the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are 14th in the Premier League table and a cup win may be the only thing that can save their season at this point.

Ange Postecoglou is under pressure, but a cup win could well salvage his Spurs legacy.

Speaking on It’s Called Soccer, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have been previewing this game, and both men have made interesting predictions about this game.

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher predict Liverpool vs Tottenham

Both pundits shared their verdicts on how this game will go.

Carragher, predictably, said that Liverpool would come out on top and win this game.

Meanwhile, Neville tipped this game to be a draw, claiming that Spurs will indeed get through to the final and head to Wembley.

“Jamie, who are you going for on the night? And then obviously I’ll do an aggregate,” The host asked.

“I think Liverpool will win on the night, and I think Liverpool will go through. I think Liverpool will win. I think Liverpool. I’ll go 3-1 Liverpool,’ Carragher said.

“Yeah, 3-1, so 3-2 on aggregate. Okay, Gary?” The host asked.

“I’m feeling pretty good about my predictions at the moment. I’ve got a lot of hunches about how games are going,” Neville said.

“You did well on the Arsenal, to be fair. You did do well. You said 3-0, didn’t you? Which was as close as anyone got,” The host asked.

“Yeah, I thought they would hammer them. I just thought they were going to hammer them,” Neville said.

“I think Tottenham. I think Tottenham are going to get a draw. I don’t know how they’re going to get a draw at Anfield, but I feel like it’s going to be an emotional, mad night where something happens.”

“Postecoglou said earlier on in the season… I’m maybe not hanging my hat on what he’s saying entirely, but I’ve just got a feeling Tottenham… I’ve got a feeling Tottenham could win the Carabao Cup this season.

“And I’ve got a feeling that, to be fair, they’re always going to have to come through a moment like this. It will be absolute Liverpool favourites, but I feel somehow Tottenham are going to get a draw by hook or by crook.”

Gary Neville predicts Mathys Tel to score vs Liverpool

A draw on the night isn’t the only prediction that Neville made ahead of this game.

Indeed, Neville was asked to predict who would score in this game, and he actually tipped Mathys Tel to grab a goal.

“All right, Jamie, you’re going then three, one on the night, Liverpool, three, two on aggregate. Give me one person to score,” Carragher was asked.

“I’m going to go for Cody Gakpo,’ Carragher said.

“Okay, Gary, you’re going to two, two. So Spurs win on aggregate. Who are you going to score?

“I’m going for the new boy, Tel,” Neville said.

Tel made a dramatic U-turn on deadline day to sign for Tottenham, and Neville reckons he will make an instant impact.

There have been a few Tottenham players to score on their debuts over the years, but scoring on your debut for Spurs doesn’t always guarantee you will be a success.

Danny Rose
Emmanuel Adebayor
Mousa Dembele
Eric Dier
Roberto Soldado
Tanguy Ndombele
Steven Bergwijn

Mousa Dembele became a Tottenham star, while Eric Dier and Danny Rose were vital players for years, but Roberto Soldado and Tanguy Ndombele were bona fide flops.

Spurs fans will be hoping that Tel scores on his debut, and they’ll also be hoping that Tel is more of a Dembele than an Ndombele.
