Gary Neville makes Liverpool claim after learning of Kylian Mbappe reports
Mbappe was the talk of the football world once again on Tuesday. Reports from a number of outlets, including ESPN, claimed that the 23-year-old now wants to leave PSG.
He only signed a new contract in the summer. However, he feels that promises have been broken at Parc des Princes. But of course, there are not too many sides in world football who can afford the Frenchman.
Neville thinks Liverpool won’t sign Mbappe
Media Foot however, have reported that Liverpool have not given up hope of signing Mbappe. In fact, Jurgen Klopp dreams of landing the forward.
Neville was presenting a podcast and was discussing Liverpool’s problems when told by David Ornstein of the reports claiming that Mbappe wants to leave PSG. And his immediate reaction was to rule out the possibility of him joining the Reds.
He did however, point out that Klopp is going to want a big statement in the transfer market next summer should their problems continue.
“He isn’t going to Liverpool, Mbappe,” he told The Overlap.
“On a serious note though if you’re Liverpool’s owners now, and let’s say this season continues in the manner that it has done so far, and they finish outside the Champions League, Jurgen Klopp is going to want that type of, I’m not saying it’s Mbappe, but Bellingham, Mbappe, he’s going to want that type of statement from the owners and board I expect.”
It is hard to see anyone signing Mbappe. But if he is going to leave PSG, he has obviously got to go somewhere.
Real Madrid are going to be in the mix. Media Foot‘s report noted that Los Blancos still want Mbappe despite missing out in the summer.
But surely no team in the Premier League is more likely to sign Mbappe than Liverpool.
It would be a remarkable statement of intent, even by the Reds’ standards.
Neville seemingly does not expect it to happen. But perhaps that may be the pundit expressing his sheer hope that he does not end up heading to Merseyside more than anything.
