Sky Sports pundit and commentator, Gary Neville, was left purring by a piece of defending from Arsenal defender, Takehiro Tomiyasu, as the Gunners saw off Leeds this evening.

The Gunners were impressive throughout their performance and were more than good value for the eventual 4-1 scoreline against Marcelo Bielsa’s side. The attacking play from Arsenal proved too much for Leeds, while some of their defending left a lot to be desired as well.

However, that couldn’t be said about Arsenal’s defending, even though Ben White put in a rash challenge to give Leeds a glimmer of hope in the second period. And one prime example of solid defensive play from the Gunners came from the ever-impressive Tomiyasu in the 56th minute.

He ushered young winger Crysencio Summerville out of the way of a cross, before taking the ball clear. And Neville, watching live for Sky tonight, was left impressed by Tomiyasu’s moment of class.

Tomiyasu did really well there. The way he managed the run of Summerville, it’s really good defending from the right-back,” Neville said on comms.

Tomiyasu has been looking brilliant ever since he signed in the summer. He was a late capture by Mikel Arteta and Edu, and he is looking every bit value for money.

If ever there was someone to judge a good piece of defending from a right-back, then it’s Gary Neville. And he was right to point out what Tomiyasu did tonight.

The Japanese star is calmness personified at times and this was just a microcosm of the class and quality he brings to this Arsenal defensive line.

Tomiyasu is looking like one of the signings of the summer. And for Arsenal fans, long may his good form continue as the Gunners continue to march towards the top four.
