Liverpool and Manchester City played out an entertaining 2-2 draw yesterday and as usual, Gary Neville was on hand to offer his expert insight into proceedings at The Etihad.
A frantic and exciting game was on display for everyone and the 2-2 was just about fair in the end. Both sides will have been disappointed not to have won given the chances on offer, but both will have been relatively happy to take a point and move on as well.
The midfield battle was an intriguing watch yesterday. City’s De Bruyne and Rodri played well, while Liverpool’s energetic three of Thiago, Fabinho and Henderson did well again. However, watching on from co-commentary, Gary Neville couldn’t believe that Thiago didn’t get booked for Liverpool in the 56th minute.

Thiago wiped out Gabriel Jesus as City broke, only for Anthony Taylor to keep his cards in his pocket. And Neville admitted it was a yellow all day long.
“I think he has to book him. Have to say I thought Jesus missed a pass to De Bruyne, he hadn’t seen him,” Neville said on the moment from Thiago live on Sky.
“He (Jesus) tries to get away but he gets pulled back. I mean, that’s a booking.”
Thiago was booked five minutes later for another cynical foul. However, you have to question if he’d have been on the pitch after it, had Taylor acted on this one too.
TBR’s View: Thiago Got Away With One, Liverpool Got Lucky
If you watch it back in slow-motion, it’s even worse. Thiago absolutely chops down Jesus and there is simply not reason for Taylor not to show the yellow. Pep Guardiola was fuming on the touchline, visibly annoyed.
When Thiago did get booked moments later, it rubbed salt into the wound a bit. He’d have seen red had he been booked initially, and it could have changed the game massively.
Liverpool, ultimately, can feel they got away with one here.
