Gary Neville has just highlighted Manchester United’s ‘big problem’ ahead of facing West Ham today

Manchester United take on West Ham United at 2pm today and Gary Neville has expressed his biggest concern at the club right now.

United are still battling to try and finish in the European spots but need to put a run together to ensure they do have European football at Old Trafford next season.

United, though, have conceded 14 in their last seven Premier League games, winning only twice and only sneaking past Wolves in the final seconds in midweek.

And speaking live on Sky before kick off today, former United defender Neville believes that defensive frailty simply has to stop.

Gary Neville says Manchester United have a big problem in defence

Speaking about his former club on Sky with Roy Keane, Neville admitted that unless United stop conceded goals, then nothing will change too much.

“It’s a big problem. They’re so inconsistent. That is just a big problem full stop. They have to get rid of it in the next two or three months. Maguire comes in today for Varane so there’s still experience there but they are shipping goals and they’ve got to stop that. The main thing is consistency and they’ve got to get that,” Neville said.

A concern for Erik ten Hag

The worry for Manchester United here is that as Neville says, conceding this many goals is never going to get you success.

They are the only club in the top ten who have scored less than they’ve conceded and if that trend continues, you only go one way down the table.

A win today can put Erik ten Hag’s men back in the European fight. However, a defeat leaves them looking over their shoulders at being outside of the top ten.

As Neville says here, Ten Hag has to find a way to resolve this situation otherwise it will simply end in tears and United will finish nowhere near where they want.
