Manchester United have had a fairly decent transfer window.
Results on the pitch have been terrible this season, but the Red Devils have got through some important business this month.
Indeed, Ruben Amorim has added some new players to his squad this month in the shape of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven, while a number of United’s wantaway players have also been shifted.
Marcus Rashford and Antony got moves away, while Tyrell Malacia looks set to move as well.
Unfortunately though, United have missed out on some targets.
United wanted Mathys Tel at one point, but that deal hasn’t happened, and now, Tel is set to join Tottenham instead.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (3/2/25 7:10PM), Gary Neville has now shared his verdict on Tel making this move to Spurs instead of United.

Gary Neville discusses Mathys Tel to Tottenham
Neville spoke about Tel heading to Spurs instead of United.
The pundit says that Tottenham remain a big draw as a football club, and he also noted that he’s glad to see Spurs signing a player who will improve their squad.
“I think it’s a huge draw Tottenham, not just for the stadium and the training ground, but the manager,” Neville said.
“The style of football, a thrilling style of play they have and to play in that team, especially as a forward, they’re not getting the right results at the moment. I’m glad that Tel has gone there.
“Initially the rumour was he turned it down, then he flirted with a few other clubs, but I’m glad Tottenham have got him, and I’m glad Ange Postecoglou has got a player that will improve them.”
Mathys Tel’s Bundesliga record
There’s been a lot of talk about Mathys Tel and his goalscoring record for Bayern Munich.
Indeed, it’s been easy to point towards the fact that Tel hasn’t scored a single goal this season and say that he wouldn’t be a good signing for Spurs.
However, when you step back and look at the bigger picture, Tel’s record in Germany is actually very good.
| Mathys Tel Bundesliga stats | |
| Games | 38 |
| Minutes | 1,266 |
| Goals | 7 |
| Minutes per goal | 181 |
This is exactly the sort of player that can help Tottenham, and while he’s not scored for a while, he clearly has a lot of potential.
As Neville says, Ange Postecoglou plays an attacking style of play, and Spurs should be able to help Tel rediscover his best form in north London.
Manchester United may well live to regret not signing Tel in this winter transfer window.
