Gary Neville expects Tottenham to finish third in the Premier League
Gary Neville has told The Overlap that he expects Tottenham to finish third in the Premier League, and claimed that they are the only team who could possibly rival Liverpool and Manchester City.
There is a huge amount of intrigue surrounding Spurs ahead of the new campaign. Obviously, it is going to be Antonio Conte’s first full season at the helm.
And it appears that they have enjoyed a superb window. Tottenham’s potential was made clear with how they finished last season. And they have since added a number of impressive signings.
The likes of Ivan Perisic, Djed Spence, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clément Lenglet will feature a lot over the coming season. Meanwhile, Fraser Forster is a very capable understudy for Hugo Lloris.
In fact, Neville has been so impressed with the direction Tottenham are going in, he backed Spurs to be the top two’s closest rivals this season. He also shared the three signings he is expecting the biggest impact from.
“I’ve got Spurs finishing third in my head because of Perisic, Bissouma and Richarlison added to what they’ve already got,” he told The Overlap.
“They won’t finish above Liverpool. But if Liverpool somehow wobble, get an injury to van Dijk, Tottenham are the only club I think that could potentially [rival the top two].”
Neville expects Tottenham to finish third
Of course, there is plenty of time left in the window. And with that, the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal may make the kind of signings that tempt Neville to rethink his prediction.
But Tottenham could have more to come also. Reports on Wednesday claimed that they are in talks to sign youngster Destiny Udogie. And Conte will surely want more through the door before the deadline.
Certainly, this season is going to be integral in determining how the next few years pan out in North London. If Conte gets a glimpse of success, it could be a very exciting time to come for Tottenham.
