Gary Neville was stunned after Bastian Schweinsteiger shared a story about his time at Manchester United.
It’s no secret that there have been plenty of issues behind the scenes at Manchester United of late, with Erik ten Hag enduring a difficult campaign at Old Trafford.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have plenty of work to do if United are to return to the very top of English football.
The issues for United stretch back years and they have lacked real direction behind the scenes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
Now, Bastian Schweinsteiger has shared a story about his time at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho.

Neville stunned after Schweinsteiger shares United story
Speaking on The Overlap, the former United midfielder claimed he was banished from first-team training without warning, which didn’t go down well with Gary Neville.
“When I came first day [of pre-season] I actually trained with Zlatan and he was there and I was like oh great, he will be amazing to play,” Schweinsteiger said.
“Then the next day on my birthday when I came to Carrington, John Murtagh was there and he said you’re not allowed to walk into the dressing room. I said why, he said the coach said so. No warning or anything.”
Neville responded: “You’re not allowed to walk into the dressing room? What? Why would you tell you? Jose didn’t want you in the dressing room?”
“Someone could have told me there, no problem,” Schweinsteiger added. “Or explained it to me in the usual way. So I went to the youth dressing room.”
Neville said: “Sorry, they kicked you out of the first team dressing room completely?”
“Yeah. I had to ask where I’m training and I trained with the under 16’s,” Schweinsteiger went on.
“Was this made public at the time? Did Jose speak to you, he must have spoken to you?” Neville asked.
“No. I said to him, can I talk to the manager in the afternoon and when I came back from the under-16’s training, I trained so badly and was thinking what is going on,” Schweinsteiger added.
“But I had a meeting in the afternoon. He just explained that he didn’t see me happy here at United because when I had my injury I did my rehab with the German doctors and spent time in Germany.”
Neville then admitted he was ‘embarrassed’ to hear Schweinsteiger’s story.
“I’m stunned at what I’m hearing,” the United legend said. “I’m embarrassed actually. I always think players leave clubs, players left the club when I was at Man United, but there is a way to do things, there is a way to behave and act.”

While Schweinsteiger was past his best by the time he arrived at Old Trafford, this does feel harsh from Mourinho.
The German certainly never lacked in terms of effort and banishing an experienced player from first-team training without warning isn’t a good look for the Portuguese boss.
It’s easy to see why Neville was ’embarrassed’ by the story as it does seem like Mourinho went about things in a slightly harsh manner.
Of course, if Schweinsteiger wasn’t in his plans moving forward then he had every right to make that clear to the player. But surely Mourinho could have informed Schweinsteiger of his decision, rather than surprising him by banishing him from first-team training.
When did Schweinsteiger leave United?
Schweinsteiger joined United for a fee worth £14.5 million back in 2015 after a 16-year spell at Bayern Munich.
The German midfielder racked up just 35 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions before leaving in March 2017.
He made the switch to the MLS to join Chicago Fire on a free transfer after falling out of favour under Mourinho.
