Gary Neville claims Antonio Conte looked 'flat' as Tottenham suffer derby defeat

Gary Neville told Sky Sports that he noticed Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte looked ‘flat’ during the first-half of today’s loss against Arsenal.

Spurs put in a disappointing performance in the opening 45 minutes and found themselves two goals behind yet again.

Hugo Lloris put the ball into his own net after failing to deal with Bukayo Saka’s cross. Martin Odegaard was then allowed far too much time to drive a powerful shot into the bottom corner to put Arsenal two up.

There wasn’t much for Tottenham fans to get excited about in the first-half, apart from Heung-Min Son getting a chance to level the scoring.

And Neville noticed that Conte wasn’t his usual self on the touchline while his side struggled to deal with their rivals.

Neville says Conte looked ‘flat’

Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of today’s clash in north London, the Manchester United legend feels Conte was lacking his usual high-energy during the first-half.

“He looked a little flat as well in the first-half, we’re used to him being so active on the sidelines,” Neville said while co-commentating on the game.

Spurs did improve massively in the second-half and had some good chances to get themselves back into the game.

But Arsenal shot stopper Aaron Ramsdale put in a brilliant performance and denied Ryan Sessegnon, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski with some eye-catching saves.

Neville did notice that Conte had perked up a bit during the second-half, which is unsurprising given his team had finally turned up for their biggest game of the season.

But the Tottenham boss must shoulder some of the blame for a poor showing too as he got some key decisions wrong on the day.

It feels like an even more crucial couple of weeks ahead for Spurs with Conte in desperate need of some reinforcements before the transfer window shuts.

The Italian’s future in north London remains uncertain with his deal set to expire at the end of the season.

You get the feeling that much will depend on the backing he receives in the transfer market, as well as where he ends up finishing in the league this season.
