‘The nerve’: Gary Neville names the ‘unbelievable’ thing Liverpool and City do what blows him away

Gary Neville was watching on closely for Sky Sports today as Liverpool and Manchester City played out a 2-2 draw at The Etihad this afternoon.

In an enthralling encounter on City’s home turf, neither side could find the elusive winner despite both having good chances to win the game at certain points. Riyad Mahrez blew a late chance for City, while Diogo Jota probably should have scored a second for himself.

But while it is City and Liverpool’s attacking football which often takes the plaudits, Gary Neville admits it is something else that impresses him most about the pair.

“They are exceptional teams. What I admire most about them is from a defensive point of view. I don’t know how they do it. They push high up the pitch with 10 minutes to go,” Neville said on Sky.

“The nerve to do that against the best in the world with the best passers and best runners is unbelievable. We’ve seen the best teams push up in the past but never like these two teams do in the game today.”

City and Liverpool can both afford to push so far up as they are so confident in their attacking players in keeping the ball. However, they both have exceptional centre-backs, too, while the full-backs are always on the cover.

TBR’s View: City And Liverpool Two Of The Best Ever

There aren’t many Premier League teams who are as good as these two. Both of them are consistently fantastic and both produce on the big stage as well.

Today was no different. Both went at it hammer and tongue and either could have won. Like Neville says, it really is impressive to sit back and admire.

Whoever wins the league out of City and Liverpool, they’ll be worthy winners.
