Gary Mabbutt comments on Tottenham chances of a top-four finish

Ex-Tottenham defender Gary Mabbutt believes that his former side can still secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

Spurs were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday night after a 4-0 aggregate defeat to RB Leipzig, plus they were also dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties by Norwich City.

That means the North London club only have their league fixtures remaining this season and have plenty of work to do .

Jose Mourinho’s side find themselves eighth in the top-flight table as it stands and are seven points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.

Spurs legend Mabbutt has claimed that they can still finish in a Champions League spot this season, despite their current run of six games without a win across all competitions.

“Now all we’ve got to concentrate on is the league. And, you know, top four is not out of reach. Certainly, we need to up performances, but it’s still certainly a realistic prospect,” Mabbutt told Love Sport Radio.

TBR’s View – Top-four finish unrealistic

Spurs have nine games remaining to try drag themselves up the table, but a top-four finish looks a tall ask at the moment and surely out of reach for them.

They are currently a side stricken with injury problems at the moment and it’s tough to see where their next three points is coming from.

Mourinho’s team have seen their form head in the wrong direction, while others above them are finding form and look far more settled.

Spurs can surely wave goodbye to the top-four if they lose to Manchester United on Sunday, who currently sit fifth in the table and are in great spirits after beating Manchester City at the weekend.
