Gary Lineker slams 'nonsense' tweet about Tottenham player
Gary Lineker has defended Harry Kane on Twitter after the Tottenham Hotspur star was labelled overrated following their North London Derby defeat on Sunday.
What’s the story?
Kane is still awaiting his first goal in the Premier League this season. And frustrations seemed to boil over for some as Spurs were beaten by their bitter rivals at the Emirates.
Tottenham were blown away during the first-half. And they have now suffered three successive losses in the Premier League, conceding three in each of those defeats.
Kane’s form is likely to be a major concern for Nuno Espirito Santo with the Spurs boss now under plenty of pressure.
And it seems that some are growing tired of Kane’s lack of goals. One fan sent a tweet – which has since been deleted – accusing the England captain of being overrated.
He also suggested that Tottenham are a better team without Kane. And that prompted a strong response from Lineker…
Used to get this sort of nonsense. Strikers have a few weeks when your form dips, when the goals don’t flow, for whatever reason and you’re suddenly overrated, useless or not the player you used to be. Such utter poppycock. Goal scoring numbers don’t lie. https://t.co/A8FgrCiN8w

Kane will find his form for Tottenham, but summer of speculation is not helping his cause
Kane has bounced back from several quiet spells in the past. And it is not like he is not scoring at all. He bagged one in the Carabao Cup win at Wolves in the week.
However, his cause is probably not being helped by the links between him and a move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer.
It makes it easier for his critics to question his commitment and his happiness after he ended up staying put.
But it would be a huge shock if Kane did not get back on track at some stage in the very near future.
