Former England striker, Gary Lineker, believes Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka could have a ‘real edge’ over his Three Lions teammates.
Saka is one of a number of players who are being tipped to be in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2021 squad, if the tournament does indeed ever go ahead. Along with the likes of Grealish, Mount, Sancho, and others, Saka is a player capable of playing in both wide areas and has been in fine form for the Gunners this term.
However, Lineker, speaking to Talksport yesterday, believes Saka’s versatility might given him an advantage when it comes to being selected.
“There’s a lot of competition but his performances have been brilliant, particularly as Arsenal have struggled in many ways. For a youngster to stand up under those circumstances is a really good sign. When they start playing really well it will work for everyone and he’s got so much maturity to his game and a brilliant amount of maturity,” Lineker said.

“His versatility is a massive advantage for him as a manager can’t three players that play wide right and three players that play wide left, but if one of those players can play on right wing or left wing, or right back or left back. It will give them a real edge.”
Saka scored the equalising goal last night as Arsenal drew with Benfica in the Europa League. He’s quickly become one of the best young players in the Premier League, with Mikel Arteta consistently praising his efforts too.
TBR View: Saka has to be in for England, he’s too good to be ignored
Of course, England have some fine players, especially in wide attacking positions. But Saka has been exceptional for Arsenal and like Lineker says, he can play a number of positions as well.
Gareth Southgate has some huge calls to make in terms of his squad. But in Saka, he has an absolute gem of a player who can go on to become one of the very best if he continues.
