Gary Lineker reacts to thrilling Leeds game, deems one Whites player’s actions ‘daft’

Leeds United have delivered a seven-goal thriller for the second Premier League game in a row, as well as picking up their first top-flight win since 2004.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites, who wowed fans and neutrals alike in their 4-3 defeat at Liverpool, beat fellow Premier League newcomers Fulham 4-3 at Elland Road on Saturday.

Helder Costa opened the scoring for Leeds after just five minutes, the 26-year-old making the most of a miscued header from a corner to smash home off the bar from an acute angle.

Aleksandar Mitrovic then equalised for the visitors with a penalty after Robin Koch had fouled Joe Bryan, a contentious decision despite a VAR check.

However, Leeds ended the half back in the lead as Mateusz Klich put Leeds ahead with a spot kick of his own in the 41st minute.

Patrick Bamford made it 3-1 in the 50th minute following a neat Klich pass and Costa grabbed his second of the game just before the hour, after great work from Bamford.

Fulham surged back to within a goal through Mitrovic and Bobby Decordova-Reid, who netted in the 62nd and 67th minute respectively, but the Whites held on for all three points.

Gary Lineker was keeping tabs on the game and described Koch’s challenge on Bryan as “daft”, though he questioned whether it should’ve been a penalty:

And as the game went on, he praised Leeds for their swashbuckling play:

Up next for Leeds is a Yorkshire derby away at Sheffield United next Sunday.
