Gary Lineker has given his verdict on Arsenal’s defeat at the hands of Brighton in the Premier League this afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners were desperate to put their midweek capitulation at the hands of Manchester City firmly against them as they headed to the south coast.

Brighton, who are battling relegation, seemed like a relatively easier proposition on paper than the 2018-19 champions away, but things once again didn’t go to plan.

A first-half collision between Bernd Leno and Brighton striker Neal Maupay left the Arsenal goalkeeper needing to be carried off on a stretcher with what looked like a serious knee injury.

Although Arsenal went on to take the lead in the second half, Nicolas Pepe scoring with a sumptuous curling shot, Brighton pulled level on 75 minutes through Lewis Dunk’s scrambled effort.

Both teams looked set for a draw but the Gunners were caught out deep into injury time, lifting the ball over Emiliano Martinez for his ninth of the season.

Here is Lineker’s take on the result:

The result keeps Arsenal ninth in the table on 40 points from 30 games, with Spurs a place and two points ahead, and fourth-placed Chelsea eight points ahead with a game in hand.
