Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night. Kingsley Coman, Thomas Muller and Philippe Coutinho scored for the hosts, with Ryan Sessegnon replying for Spurs.
With both teams already certain of their final standings in Group B, Jose Mourinho took the chance to rest some of his stars.
Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Jan Vertonghen didn’t make the trip. Sessegnon came in for his first start and Giovani Lo Celso, Christian Eriksen and Juan Foyth earned some valuable minutes.
Bayern were pretty much at full strength. Mourinho will have learnt a lot about his squad though and that could bode well ahead of the January transfer window.
A goal in Sessegnon’s first start for the club was certainly one of the highlights.
The 19-year-old signed from Fulham for £25 million (BBC Sport) during the summer. He has suffered from an injury problem, however, but he now looks back on track.
Following a goal on his full debut, he received praise from an ex-Spurs star in the shape of Gary Lineker.
He took to Twitter to sum up Sessegnon’s goal using just one superlative to describe it:
Ryan Sessegnon scores in his first start for @SpursOfficial with a delightful finish. 👏🏻👏🏻

The teenager is one of the country’s most exciting teenagers.
He has 12 caps for the England under-21 and proved a revelation for the Cottagers having made his debut at 16.
Tottenham pipped a host of clubs to the signature of the youngster and he already looks set for a big career at the club.
The challenge for Sessegnon now is to force his way into Mourinho’s plans on a regular basis in the Premier League.
