Gary Lineker pokes fun at Aston Villa player

Aston Villa had another day to forget as they were hammered in Monday night’s Premier League trip to Leicester City and Gary Lineker couldn’t help but poke fun at one of the claret and blue players.

Dean Smith’s charges headed to the King Power Stadium hoping to get their relegation battle back on track but instead they were torn to pieces in a 4-0 defeat, with Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy both scoring braces.

Villa may well have fancied their chances beforehand, given Leicester had not won in the league since 22 January, and Vardy had not scored in nearly 11 hours, but in the 40th minute, the Foxes were effectively gifted a goal by Pepe Reina.

Making his way towards goal, Barnes rounded the Villa goalkeeper, who had decided to charge towards the Leicester man around 25 yards out, and fired home from the edge of the box.

Lineker had the following to say about the opening goal of the match:

The Leicester-leaning pundit enjoyed a great evening as Vardy ended his goal drought with two goals and Barnes also claimed a second:

What an error in judgement from Reina, whose Villa side wasn’t far off making it to half time level and with a clean sheet.

From then on, the visitors’ heads dropped while Leicester turned the screw and ended up kickstarting their bid for a top-four finish.

As for Villa, they are bereft of confidence, and when one of the most experienced and talented players in the team makes such an error, it really caps off a dismal day at the office.

The only saving grace for Villa is that the three teams above them are just two points ahead, while 15th-placed Brighton are a further two points in front, so the battle is far from over.
