Gary Lineker has poked fun at Arsenal defender David Luiz following his poor display in Wednesday night’s Premier League defeat at Manchester City.

The Gunners’ return to top-flight action didn’t go to plan as they were beaten 3-0 in a game littered with errors from Mikel Arteta’s side.

Luiz, who came on in the 24th minute for the injured Pablo Mari, failed to clear the ball just before half time, which enabled Raheem Sterling to open the scoring.

The Brazilian then conceded a penalty and was sent off for pulling Riyad Mahrez back, with Kevin De Bruyne duly slotting in for City’s second.

Phil Foden then made it three in injury time as the reigning Premier League champions enjoyed a bright return to proceedings at the expense of the Gunners.

Here is Lineker’s reaction on Twitter to the opening goal:

And to Luiz’s red card:

Luiz was an £8million signing from Chelsea last August, replacing then Gunners club captain Laurent Koscielny, who joined Bordeaux the previous day.

It was widely reported that the 33-year-old arrived in North London on a two-year deal, but Sky Sports recently claimed that the deal was only for an initial 12-month stay.

Arsenal have held talks over extending the Brazilian’s contract for another 12 months, but an agreement has not been reached.
