Gary Lineker gives two-word verdict on West Ham star after international display

Gary Lineker praised West Ham’s Declan Rice for his England performance on Wednesday night.

Gareth Southgate’s England picked up a vital 2-1 victory at Wembley Stadium over Poland in a World Cup qualifier.

Harry Kane’s penalty put the Three Lions ahead in the first half, but an error from John Stones gifted Jakub Moder an equaliser.

Stones atoned for his error though by assisting Harry Maguire for his winning goal late on.

Rice was once again a key cog in the centre of the park for England, as he partnered Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips in midfield.

West Ham star Rice is clearly a key player for Southgate going into this summer’s European Championships, and showed the kind of form on the international stage that he’s had at club level.

The 22-year-old central midfielder breaks up play so well with interceptions and tackles, as well as being sharp in possession.

Lineker used a two-word description of “seriously good” for Rice:

TBR’s View:

Rice had some doubters a couple of years ago, but the same can’t be said now.

He’s elevated his game to another level, and it’s exciting that he only turned 22 earlier this year.

It’s easy to see why he’s the stand-in captain already at West Ham, so perhaps it won’t be a surprise to see him thrown into the conversation of future England skipper.
