BBC Sport pundit Gary Lineker has described Sunderland as a “well-supported club” and recalled what it was like playing at Roker Park, their ground before moving to the Stadium of Light.
Lineker was discussing some of the toughest places to play in English football in the latest Match of The Day: Top 10 podcast, along with Micah Richards and Alan Shearer.
Roker Park was one of the 10 that made the cut, with Lineker speaking about his experiences playing at Sunderland’s former stadium.

“I played a couple of times in my early days with Leicester and the ‘Roker Roar’ really was a thing. It really was,” Lineker told BBC Sport. “A well-supported club.”
Roker Park was Sunderland’s home from 1898 to 1997, and was well known for being a particularly intimidating ground for the opposition.
The noise made by the Black Cats fans whenever there was a home goal or another big moment could be heard from miles away – this was the Roker Roar.
Other stadiums named by the MOTD pundits in the podcast include Anfield, Old Trafford, Elland Road, The Den and Upton Park.
