West Ham continued their fine form with a 2-0 win over Leeds United at the London Stadium last night. Afterwards, Gary Lineker heaped praise on Craig Dawson and jokingly compared him to a Real Madrid icon.

The centre-back put the Hammers two goals to the good in the first half with a stunning header. He has been largely impressive for West Ham and this was another strong showing.

West Ham are fifth in the Premier League and sit two points behind Chelsea having played a game less than their London rivals. It’s a remarkable transformation for David Moyes who saw his team sit in the relegation zone just 12 months ago.

Dawson has proved an inspired signing by the Hammers. He checked in on a loan from Watford during the summer transfer window and is now considered an instrumental part of the team.

After last night’s showing, Lineker took to Twitter to claim that the 30-year-old had transformed into Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos.

Dawson has been incredible just recently for the Hammers. After initially being forced to wait patiently he has now scored four goals in 14 appearances for the Hammers.

West Ham have an option to buy the defender in the summer and it seems likely that the £40,000-a-week enforcer will remain at the London Stadium.

At 30, Dawson still has a few years ahead of him and right now he’s one of the first names on Moyes’ team-sheet.

The defender’s arrival was scrutinised by some Hammers fans when he checked in, with many feeling he didn’t have the required quality.

Moyes has hit the jackpot though and with the experienced defender playing out of his skin, West Ham look nailed on for a European place next season.
