Everton lost their third game in a row this week with a 3-1 loss at Goodison Park against Manchester City.

Once again, plenty of Everton fans have questions to ask of their goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The England number one stopper had a poor game against Sheffield United in his last Premier League outing and another small error proved costly against City yesterday.

Jordan Pickford was beaten at his post with a free-kick from Riyad Mahrez. It was a shot that, in hindsight, Pickford will have felt disappointed not to stop.

Indeed, that is how former Everton striker and BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker felt about the goal.

He took to Twitter to suggest that Pickford will be disappointed not to have made the save.

TBR’s View

There is no doubt that Pickford will be disappointed not to have saved the effort. However, it was a powerful and well-placed effort from the Algerian and some of the stick Pickford has received might be over the top.

The issue from an Everton perspective is that they know what Pickford is capable of when on the top of his game.

This sort of performance is not good enough for a player of his talent and Everton are right to expect a higher standard. Hopefully, Pickford can rediscover his best form.
