Olivier Giroud continued his excellent form since the return to football with the winner as Chelsea beat Norwich City 1-0 to make it five wins out of seven – and both Gary Lineker and Tottenham fans have discussed the striker.

Giroud, 33, has now scored four goals in Chelsea’s seven Premier League matches since the restart – with the French target man netting seven in 20 appearances this season. Chelsea have climbed to third in the table.

Giroud’s first-half header has seen Chelsea open up a four-point gap on Leicester City, though the Foxes face Sheffield United on Thursday night. Giroud’s form has seen him earn an extended stay at Chelsea until 2021.

It could have been so different. In the dying embers of the January transfer window, the France World Cup winner was being linked with a move to Tottenham – as Jose Mourinho looked to bring in back-up for Harry Kane.

Giroud told the Daily Mail, amid interest from Tottenham, that he was “about to leave” Chelsea in January. Instead, he has stayed at Stamford Bridge and has hit a purple patch in front of goal as Chelsea look to finish in the top four.

Following his goal for Chelsea on Tuesday night, which is his 25th strike in 83 appearances for the Blues – Tottenham supporters discussed what could have been, while former Spurs star Lineker also heaped praise on the French ace.
