West Ham recorded an impressive 3-1 away win at Aston Villa in midweek, with their new signing Jesse Lingard stealing all the headlines.

Lingard completed a loan move to the London Stadium during the mid-season transfer window, as he was granted a temporary exit by Manchester United from Old Trafford.

He played just three first-team games for Man United during the first half of the season, but Hammers boss David Moyes decided to chuck him straight into the XI on Wednesday night.

The 28-year-old repaid the manager’s faith by scoring two goals on his West Ham debut in the victory at Villa.

It means that the team are now up to fifth in the Premier League table and are genuine European contenders.

Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand were both quick to send messages of praise to Lingard for his debut performance.

TBR’s View:

Lingard’s career certainly was at a crossroads, but a loan move looks like it could reignite his career.

The attacking midfielder slotted in effortlessly into the West Ham side, as he linked up with his new teammates and provided a goal threat.

He’s certainly not become a bad player overnight and there’s a reason he’s played 210 games for Man United, as well as earn 24 caps for England.

It’s too soon to claim he’ll be a major success at West Ham during the remaining months of this season, but the early signs are extremely positive.
