Liverpool and Newcastle United played out a dramatic 1-1 draw in Saturday’s early Premier League kickoff at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds hosted Steve Bruce’s Magpies knowing victory would’ve seen them move into the top four for the time being at least.

Things began well for Liverpool as Mohamed Salah swivelled and fired inside Martin Dubravka’s near post to put the Reds ahead after just three minutes.

Although Newcastle looked bright at times, with Allan Saint-Maximin and Sean Longstaff coming close to restoring parity, Liverpool weighed in with chance after chance.

Salah, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane all had opportunities to double the Reds’ lead, but half time arrived with the hosts just one goal up.

A dramatic last few minutes of the game saw Callum Wilson bundle home, only for VAR to disallow the goal as the ball inadvertently hit his arm before he scored.

However, Newcastle didn’t let their heads drop and, with virtually the last kick of the game, Joe Willock popped up to score with a deflected effort.

Gary Lineker described the result as “justice”:

And Newcastle legend Shearer thought his boyhood club deserved a share of the spoils:

Both Liverpool and Newcastle are in action next Sunday, with Klopp’s charges heading to Manchester United and the Magpies hosting Arsenal at St James’ Park.
