Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer praise Tottenham star Ivan Perisic
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have lauded Ivan Perisic on BBC One (broadcast on 1/12; 14:48) ahead of the Tottenham Hotspur star’s appearance for Croatia against Belgium at the World Cup.
Perisic went into the crucial final group game having played a key role in the finalists of four years ago putting one foot in the knockout stages of the competition in Qatar.
The Spurs man provided two of the assists in the emphatic 4-1 win over Canada last time out that saw the Croatians take charge of the group.
Shearer praises Ivan Perisic
Perisic, of course, has been superb for his country for more than a decade now. And he continues to make an impact for the side, even at the age of 33.
And ahead of the clash with Belgium, both Lineker and Shearer were full of praise for everything the wide-man brings to the table.
“Perisic is a seasoned pro isn’t he, he’s such a good player and can play different positions for you,” Lineker told BBC One.
“He’s a really good player. You don’t be around for as long as he has and have the career he has [without that]. He’ll be a big player for them today,” Shearer added.
Tottenham getting Perisic on a free transfer is an incredibly underrated piece of business from Fabio Paratici. He has won league titles with Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
And he has been a key player for a Croatia side which came so close to lifting the World Cup four years ago in Russia.
As both Shearer and Lineker note, he has that ability to play in a number of roles. And Spurs fans have seen that this season.
He may well be approaching the twilight of his career, but there seems to be little reason why Perisic cannot continue to play at a very high level for a number of years yet – contributing for both Tottenham and Croatia.
