Gary Lineker predicts who out of Liverpool or Tottenham will finish fourth in Premier League this season

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have big seasons ahead of them as they look to kick on from the 2023/24 campaign.

The Reds and the Lilywhites both did well overall, but they fell short after being in great positions for most of the season.

Liverpool contested one of the most exciting three-horse title races in the league, alongside Arsenal and Manchester City.

However, the Reds suffered a downturn in form in April and had to settle for third place as the Gunners got second and the Citizens triumphed once again.

Meanwhile, Tottenham hit the ground running under Ange Postecoglou and even looked like dark horses for the title at one point.

Spurs remained in the top-four picture for most of the season but, like Liverpool, a downturn in form in April saw them ultimately get fifth place.

Gary Lineker has now had his say on how he feels Liverpool and Tottenham will fare in the league this season.

Gary Lineker backs Liverpool for fourth and Tottenham for fifth

Lineker, speaking on The Rest is Football, doesn’t believe that either the Reds or the Lilywhites will do better than last season.

Indeed, he reckons Liverpool will finish in fourth, while Tottenham will equal their 2023/24 finish and secure fifth spot whilst being “great to watch”.

Lineker said. “I think it’s touch and go for fourth place between Liverpool and Spurs. I think I went Liverpool fourth and Spurs fifth.

“It will be interesting to see how Ange ball does again this season because it’s great to watch.”

Strong competition for top four

This Premier League season could be one of the most difficult in recent years when it comes to securing a top-four spot.

Man City have built a dynasty and, as always, will be the team to beat. Meanwhile, Arsenal are getting stronger and stronger.

Liverpool and Tottenham will be there or thereabouts, things could finally click for Chelsea, and West Ham and Aston Villa have made plenty of great signings this summer.

The TBR Football writers have made their predictions on who will win the Premier League title, who will get into Europe, and who will suffer relegation.
