Garth Crooks tips Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson to win PFA Player of the Year

Former Manchester United striker Garth Crooks believes Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is a ‘shoo-in’ to be named PFA Player of the Year.

Henderson netted the second goal in the Reds’ 4-0 thumping of Southampton at Anfield on Saturday and Crooks used his BBC column to tip the England man for the honour.

He said: “You can’t beat the first-time ball. Certainly not the way Jordan Henderson provided the pass for Mohamed Salah to score his second goal. In fact there aren’t many players who are prepared to deliver a pass on the run without taking a touch first.

“Henderson is in such blistering form he’s capable of anything at the moment. I’ve said repeatedly in this column that the Liverpool captain is playing the football of his life and a shoo-in for Footballer of the Year. Henderson has both scored and assisted twice in his last three league matches, as many times as he had done so in 131 games prior.”

TBR’s View – Henderson is absolutely flying but faces stiff competition for Player of the Year

It looks almost certain that the Player of the Year will be a Liverpool player with the club now 22 points clear in pursuit of the club’s first Premier League title.

Is Henderson a shoo-in? He’s absolutely flying, but will face stiff competition from within Anfield in the shape of Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, who will all hope to be nominated.

It is rare for players who perform an understated role like Henderson to scoop the award. It usually goes to attacking stars, with the exception made last year for van Dijk because of the way he so clearly transformed Liverpool’s defence.
