Garth Crooks slams Tottenham player after Arsenal loss

Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that the body language of Harry Kane during Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Arsenal worried him, as he insisted that he expected the striker to be tougher after easily losing a duel with Ben White.

What’s the story?

Spurs are beginning the inquest into their abject showing in Sunday’s North London Derby. They were beaten 3-1 at the Emirates.

In truth, the scoreline potentially flatters Nuno Espirito Santo’s men given the way that they were torn apart in the first-half.

A number of their players failed to turn up for the contest. And Crooks has pinpointed one moment early on in the game that was critical in the tone being set for both sides.

ULTIMATE XI Of Players Signed This Summer

It came when Ben White came out on top in a duel with Kane. And Crooks suggested he did not like what he saw from the Spurs striker in response to the incident.

“The writing was on the wall at Emirates Stadium when I saw Ben White outjump Harry Kane for a 50/50 header in the early exchanges. Anyone can lose a header but it’s Kane’s body language that worried me,” he told BBC Sport.

“I said last week against Chelsea that he looked like he didn’t fancy it, while against Arsenal he looked like he was going through the motions. I expect the captain of Tottenham Hotspur and England to be made of tougher stuff.”

Worrying signs for Nuno if Kane and Tottenham teammates cannot inspire themselves in North London Derby

No matter what is happening in North London, there is one game on each side of the calendar that the two clubs should have no problem turning up for.

In fact, the derby is an opportunity for the form book to be thrown out of the window. And Spurs needed that off the back of two 3-0 losses.

However, they were second best for most of the day. And that will be a worry for Nuno Espirito Santo.

Some fans have always doubted whether Nuno is the right man to lead them forward. Most of the early optimism has evaporated.

It is going to take some time for a lot of the wounds from Sunday to heal.
