Liverpool dismantled Manchester United yesterday with a stunning display of attacking football, but Garth Crooks still found space for Alisson Becker in his team of the week.
Alisson made a couple of good saves at Old Trafford to ensure United couldn’t find a way past the Liverpool defence. Of course, VAR rescued the Reds when Cristiano Ronaldo fired one into the bottom corner.

But on the whole, the Brazilian stopper showed once again why he is considered one of the very best goalkeepers in the world. And picking his team of the week for the BBC, well-known pundit Crooks picked out the Liverpool stopper as his choice.
“The first-half save from Mason Greenwood was an indicator that Alisson was up for this match and prepared to take on all comers. His save from the feet of Cristiano Ronaldo was yet another one-on one stop I have seen the Brazil international make this season,” Crooks wrote.
“He made a similar save in midweek against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. When it comes to one-on-ones Alisson is arguably the best around.”
Alisson has kept five clean sheets this season in the Premier League in just eight games. The difference this year is stark, with Virgil van Dijk back in the defence. Alisson kept just 10 shutouts all last year.
TBR’s View: Alisson the best in the world?
Liverpool fans will say Alisson is certainly the very best. And in fairness, it is hard to argue with that notion.
The Brazilian is excellent and makes things that should be difficult look really easy. His positioning, movement on the line, and distribution is quite simply stunning. Not to mention his shot stopping ability.
Others, such as Ederson and Manuel Neuer will claim to be in the same bracket. But Liverpool fans won’t care, as long as Alisson keeps producing the goods.
