Garth Crooks named Tottenham star Tanguy Ndombele in his latest team of the week after his performance against Sheffield United.
Spurs recored a routine 3-1 win last Sunday in the Premier League against bottom of the table Sheffield United.
Jose Mourinho’s side are fifth in the league standings right now and seven points behind leaders Manchester United, who have played a game extra.
BBC pundit Crooks singled out Ndombele as a real star from the weekend results.
The 24-year-old midfielder scored a jaw-dropping chipped goal which will be in the running for goal of the season.
“It’s clear that the relationship between Tanguy Ndombele and Jose Mourinho has improved immeasurably from the days when the Tottenham manager wouldn’t give the player the time of day,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“Over a period of months we’ve seen the France international start to dominate matches and seen Mourinho less inclined to substitute the player late in games. Ndombele has, in return, grown in confidence and looked very impressive away at Sheffield United.
“His goal was quite brilliant and while Spurs have lacked craft and ingenuity in midfield, especially at home, here is a player who might suddenly provide the answer.”
Ndombele’s weekend display will be remembered for his individual brilliance with his goal, but he did a bit of everything.
The all-action central midfielder looked creative and an attacking threat going forward.
Meanwhile, it’s obvious to see how much the defensive side of his game has improved and the work he puts on off the ball has increased tenfold.
His contribution in attack should help to ease the load of key duo Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son, who the team have become so reliant on for goals.
But Ndombele now has four goals and three assists under his belt, plus his all-round game appears to be growing in confidence.
