Garth Crooks raves over Martin Dubravka’s performance in Newcastle draw at Wolves

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has praised the performance of Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Wolves.

Crooks put Dubravka in his team of the week, hailing the stopper for the part he played in his side coming away from Molineux with a draw.

He said: “I thought Crystal Palace’s Vicente Guaita’s double save in the closing minutes of their game against Arsenal was excellent. His efforts preserved a point for the Eagles. However my goalkeeper this week is Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka.

“The Slovakia international’s performance away to Wolves was immense. He made two world-class saves; one with his feet and the other he practically pulled the ball out of the net. If you don’t believe me, ask his manager Steve Bruce.”

TBR’s View – Dubravka needs springboard to rediscover best form

Dubravka made a fantastic first impression in English football but his 2019 was sprinkled with mistakes which cost his side at times.

It’s still right that he’s Newcastle’s undisputed number one goalkeeper but he will hope for more afternoons like Saturday where he was right on top of his game, preserving points for his side.

He might well hope that Saturday can prove to be a springboard for a consistent run of top form. Dubravka is more than capable.
