BBC pundit raves about ‘serious’ £100,000-a-week Tottenham star, makes plea to Conte

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for his performance in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Leeds.

Spurs claimed a first three points as the club’s boss in the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Hojbjerg netting the equaliser.

The first half was drab from a Tottenham perspective. Leeds went in front thanks to a Dan James goal and they were good value for a half-time lead.

Whatever was said at half-time clearly worked. Hojbjerg equalised before Sergio Reguilon fired home a winner to send Leeds back to Yorkshire with nothing.

Crooks was impressed with Tottenham’s midfield, picking the £100,000-a-week player in his Team of the Week.

He told BBC Sport: “The issue for Antonio Conte is that he has an enormous amount of work to do at Spurs.

“However, he could do much worse than start building his team around the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

“The Denmark international is a serious, no-nonsense individual who appears to have all the characteristics Conte admires.”

Integral: Hojbjerg will be vital to Tottenham under Conte

It goes without saying that Crooks is absolutely spot on when it comes to Hojbjerg.

Tottenham’s man of the moment has proved himself to be a sound addition to the Spurs ranks.

He was brilliant last season and has picked up where he left off during 2021/22.

Hojbjerg, to some, is a no-frills player but he does possess all the qualities needed to play in the combative midfield role.

Of course, the 26-year-old can’t do it all on his own but Conte will have been impressed with the midfielder yesterday.

In Conte’s 3-4-3 system the midfielders will be vitally important and the pairing will have to bring something to the table.

On yesterday’s showing, Hojbjerg looks set to make his mark under another manager at Tottenham.
