BBC pundit Garth Crooks named Jordan Henderson in his Team of the Week and claimed the Liverpool captain should have been celebrating a winning goal in the Merserside-derby this weekend.

The former Tottenham star picked the Reds skipped in a midfield three and claimed that his injury-time strike should have stood.

Sadio Mane was deemed to have been in an offside position and Liverpool were forced to settle for a draw from the contest at Goodison Park.

Crooks thinks the reigning Premier League champions have every right to feel aggrieved at the controversial decision.

He told BBC Sport: “Whether you thought Liverpool were worthy of the victory or not, Jordan Henderson’s injury-time goal should have stood on the basis that the offside decision was indistinguishable to the naked eye on the camera.

“When we have to take the word of a video operator or the scientist when it is impossible to be definitive, then the referee must be the final arbiter, otherwise the game is in danger of spiralling out control.

“Henderson was the driving force behind what should have been a Liverpool victory. Sorry, Evertonians.”

The Liverpool maestro is a massive performer for Jurgen Klopp and carries himself impeccably well.

He’s become one of the Premier League’s top midfielders and with Virgil van Dijk now out for several months, it’s vital Henderson stays fit.

Whether or not the Reds can retain their title this season will largely be down to whether or not they can keep the £140,000-a-week performer fit and fresh.

He gets things moving from the middle of the park and deserves every ounce of praise he receives.
