Garth Crooks raves about Ilkay Gundogan after Manchester City win

Garth Crooks has named Manchester City man of the moment Ilkay Gundogan in his BBC Sport Team of the Week, raving about his standout performance against Tottenham.

The Germany international was in fine form as the Citizens defeated Jose Mourinho’s team 3-0, scoring twice to enhance City’s lead at the summit of the Premier League.

Gundogan is enjoying a fine season in the Manchester City team, helping the team take a commanding lead in the race to win another Premier League crown.

He has fired 13 goals and registered three assists during 2020/21 and is one of City’s most instrumental players on current form.

Crooks was certainly impressed and named him in his BBC Sport Team of the Week for a solid performance against Tottenham.

He told the website: “I’ve been banging on about Ilkay Gundogan for some time.

“The Germany international has been outstanding since Kevin De Bruyne’s injury and carried City to the top of the table on his shoulders.

“I know that anyone with the meanest of intelligence could have spotted his brilliance but nonetheless he’s been wonderful to watch.”

The midfielder has struggled with a series of niggling injuries since arriving at City and Pep Guardiola will hope his latest one isn’t too bad.

He has been in superb form during 2020/21 and has really started to show the City faithful exactly how good he can be on his day.

With 13 goals to his name he’s been one of the top-performing midfield players in the Premier League and has proved a joy to watch at times.

Gundogan has been at City since 2016 and earns £140,000-a-week at the Etihad Stadium.

He has played 190 times for the club in total, scoring 35 goals and claiming 25 assists.

On current form, City look like adding another Premier League trophy to their cabinet, whilst you wouldn’t bet against them conquering Europe too.
