Everton defender Michael Keane earned a rave review from BBC pundit Garth Crooks who named the centre-back in his Team of the Week.

The former Manchester United man was impressive as the Toffees secured a vital three points against Chelsea at the weekend.

It was a much-needed win for Everton who had gone two games without a win prior to Saturday’s clash.

Crooks had praise for Keane after his latest outstanding performance.

In his BBC column, he wrote: “It’s always a good sign when the manager picks out his defence as the main reason for his team’s victory. Carlo Ancelotti was in no doubt as to the reason Everton beat the club he won the Premier League title with during his last managerial stint in this country.

“At the heart of that victory over Chelsea was Michael Keane. The former Burnley defender is one of the game’s unsung heroes. He hardly misses any games, gives 100% every game and even when he has an off-day you somehow can’t give him a hard time about it.”

The Toffees are up to seventh in the Premier League after this latest win and are now just three points off the top four.

Ancelotti will hope to end Everton’s elusive wait for European football and they’re well on course for that.

The £65,000-a-week star has played every game under Ancelotti this season and is showing some fine form for the Blues.

Everton will need to stay consistent to secure a European place but with Keane showing the form he is, they have every chance.
