BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks raved about Arsenal star Mohamed Elneny for his performance in Sunday’s victory over Newcastle at St James’ Park, naming the midfielder in his Team of the Week.
The Egyptian was handed a chance to start the clash in the North East, firing in his team’s first goal after just six minutes.
Elneny has been one of Arsenal’s surprise packages during 2020/21 and appears to have rediscovered some form when called upon by Mikel Arteta.
The 28-year-old was subject of intense speculation during the summer but he’s redeemed himself somewhat this season.

Elneny has made 28 appearances during 2020/21 and has found the net on three occasions for the Gunners.
Crooks was mightily impressed with his showing at the weekend and named him in his Team of the Week.
He told BBC Sport: “His post-match interview said it all. The delight Mohamed Elneny showed knowing he had scored his first Premier League goal for Arsenal is what boyhood dreams are made of.
“I’m getting rather irritated by know-it-all commentators who continually tell me that players in front of goal should have scored. I wouldn’t mind if they knew how difficult scoring goals was or had scored a few themselves.
“Elneny’s relief and gratitude reminded me just how difficult it is to score a goal in top-flight football. The Egypt international also played a pivotal role in the Gunners victory away at Newcastle.”
TBR View: Elneny offering Arteta food for thought
It does seem likely that the Arsenal boss will try and bolster his midfield ranks during the summer but he shouldn’t discount Elneny just yet.

At 28 he still has plenty left to offer and at times this season, he’s showcased a certain level of quality when called upon.
Elneny has made 127 appearances in the Gunners team and has proved a slow-burning of a signing to the club.
He seems to have the trust of Arteta and the future could see more opportunities come the way of the £50,000-a-week player.
