Garth Crooks praises Harry Kane for rising above the Tottenham weekend chaos

Former Tottenham striker Garth Crooks has lavished praise on current Spurs hitman Harry Kane after his winning goal earned a 2-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were down to ten men in the first half after Serge Aurier was sent off for two quickfire bookable offences, but Kane netted the winner regardless.

As per BBC, Crooks said: “Spurs would have lost this game if it were not for the calmness of Kane. For large parts of the win against Southampton, Tottenham’s performance descended into chaos.

Serge Aurier’s game fell apart during 10 minutes of madness, followed by Hugo Lloris’s peculiar rendition of the Cruyff turn on his own goalline. Really, have you ever seen anything like it? Thank goodness Spurs have Kane – one of the few players they can rely on in a crisis.”

TBR’s View – The case grows ever stronger for Kane to be Tottenham’s captain

Taking the armband off a World Cup winning captain would be a bold move from Pochettino, but it’s becoming ever clearer that Kane should be Tottenham’s leader.

Crooks suggests that Lloris, as well as Serge Aurier, cannot be relied upon in a crisis and the Frenchman takes too many unnecessary risks to be deemed a reliable leader, in truth.

Kane is the man who has the focus, application and passion for the club to be the long-term leader and it’s likely just a case of if and not when he wears the armband for club as well as country.
