Calum Chambers was part of the Arsenal backline which kept a clean sheet during Freddie Ljungberg’s final game in charge, against Everton on Saturday.
Garth Crooks admitted to the BBC he’s not been a great admirer of Chambers in the past but praised his display at Goodison Park as new Gunners boss Mikel Arteta watched on.
He said: “He’s never been one of my favourite Arsenal players but against Everton I thought Chambers was the best defender on the pitch. His second-half collision with Richarlison, in a desperate attempt to defend another Everton attack in the final minutes, was about as committed as it gets.
“Chambers has grown into a dependable defender amid a host of youth and exuberance but sadly very little else. A clean sheet away from home brought a valuable point for the Gunners under the current circumstances.”

TBR’s View – Chambers will likely form part of Arteta’s revolution
Chambers is far from perfect, but he did play well at right back earlier in the season is likely a better long-term bet at centre half than Sokratis or David Luiz for Arteta.
Him and Rob Holding are likely in prime position to be at the heart of Arsenal’s central defence for the future, but he will have to produce this level of performance on a consistent basis.
