Garth Crooks picks Liverpool's Mo Salah in team of the season
Liverpool forward, Mo Salah, has made the team of season selected by BBC pundit and former player, Garth Crooks.
The Red star narrowly missed out on the Premier League golden boot, as Harry Kane just pipped him on the final day at Leicester.
However, Salah has once again been integral for Jurgen Klopp. He has scored more than 20 PL goals again, and in a season of defensive struggles, Salah’s consistency has been outstanding.
Salah was the only player from Liverpool to make Crooks’ final XI. And the BBC man believes the Egyptian’s display against Palace on the final day of the season is good news for the Reds.
“Well he missed out on the coveted Golden Boot, but frankly who cares? Champions League football was a must for Salah and for Liverpool,” Crooks commented.
“I’ve said repeatedly that Salah’s selfishness has had an effect on his team-mates, and none more so than Sadio Mane. The Senegal striker works tirelessly for the team and shares his opportunities. Salah tends to carve chances out for himself and clearly feels he has earned them.”
“Regardless, Salah finished the season against Crystal Palace brilliantly with the sort of team performance that graced his game when he first arrived at Anfield.”
There had been some speculation that Salah might well leave Anfield this summer. But with a top four place secured, the Reds are now well-positioned to keep their star man.
The likes of Real Madrid and PSG have been keeping an eye on proceedings.
TBR’s View: Salah excpetional again and rightfully selected
You don’t score more than 20 goals and be such a model of consistency and not get selected in the team of the season.
Salah might have been less explosive than normal at times but he’s still produced the goods and has scored, assisted, and turned up when needed.
Scoring more than 20 for three years running is a fine achievement and Salah and Liverpool will be delighted with their season finale.
