Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that he did not think Andrew Robertson would be able to maintain the form that he showed during Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, but he actually thinks that he has been better this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s men go into 2021 with something of a point to prove to themselves. They sit at the top of the Premier League table once again. However, draws with West Brom and Newcastle in their last two mean that they have won just two of their five most recent league games.

Of course, the Reds have had to deal with some incredibly significant injuries. And it does appear that some players have not yet been able to quite find the form of last season.
However, others have certainly stepped up. And Robertson is arguably one of those. The left-back leads the Reds’ assist charts, with five – two clear of anyone else.

And his form has prompted Crooks to make an admission as he included the Scotland international in his Team of the Year.
“This kid is playing out of his skin again,” he told BBC Sport. “I didn’t think he could maintain the form he showed in Liverpool’s title-winning season but I think he’s even better now.
“His quality of pass – especially his delivery into the opposition penalty area – has been magnificent. I can’t imagine what he will be like when there’s a full house at Anfield again.”
It has to be noted amid all of the current frustration, Liverpool are still top. And they are still picking up points. In fairness, they also came up against an inspired goalkeeper in Karl Darlow on Wednesday.
So while it does appear that they are struggling, that is only against the incredible yardstick they have set.
But Robertson – who earns £50,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is one of those who has been incredibly impressive. He has arguably outshone another of the world’s best full-backs in Trent Alexander-Arnold so far this season.
For all of those hoping to challenge Liverpool, the scary thought is surely the fact that there seems to be so much more to come from Klopp’s men.
