Garth Crooks has given a glowing verdict on the quality of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, who he’s included in his latest edition of team of the week.

BBC pundit Crooks selected the Reds defender in his side after his performance on Monday night in the 1-1 Premier league draw against Leeds United, which was at a time where the news over the proposed European Super League was at its thickest. Fortunately, those plans have died after England’s ‘big six clubs’ pulled out of the plans.

Alexander-Arnold, who earns £75,000-a-week (Spotrac), was one of Liverpool’s standout players against Leeds at Elland Road.

The 22-year-old right-back continued his strong recent form going forward by assisting teammate Sadio Mane for his goal.

It means he’s now got two goals and seven assists this season.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold played as though he had never read a newspaper or been on a social media platform in his life, and once again showed nerves of steel throughout. As for the touch for Sadio Mane’s goal, it was just masterful,” Crooks wrote for BBC Sport.

TBR’s View:

Alexander-Arnold may have tried to drown out the noise of the Super League like the rest of his Liverpool teammates earlier this week, but there can be no way he’s managed to avoid all the talk of him in the media recently about his England position.

The full-back was dropped from Gareth Southgate’s England squad in the previous international break, with the Three Lions boss citing a dip in his club form as the reason. It’s certainly bad news for his chances of making this summer’s European Championships.

However, the Liverpool-born ace is starting to regain the form that in the past couple of years that has had people mention him in the conversation for best right-back in the world.

Alexander-Arnold is arguably the best English crosser of a ball there is, but he’s competing with the likes of Reece James, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier for a spot in the national team squad.
